Black screen while backlight works, switches to normal now and then.

I have the same problems with my 2008 15" MBP (1226) as this question:

Black screen while backlight works, display data cable replaced.

I did not replace the display data cable because I saw it did not solve it for the above link.

There is a strange thing: turned on with an external display after a while (half an hour) the screen switches to normal again and works perfectly! But after some time it suddenly turns black again even if the macbook is not touched. The backlight is working fine if the screen is black, I can control the light intensity with the F2/F3 buttons.

I brought it to a mac repair center but they say that the display is broken and should be replaced. However, now and then the display works perfectly.

Any ideas? How can I check the connectors of the display cable?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I opened the macbook following the guide to replace the display data cable. While open and reconnecting all the connectors (display cable, blacklight cable) I turned it on: result was a black screen, external display was working normal. I touched the display cable and tried to get the screen working again. Nothing.

Then suddenly, when I was not touching anything, after 3 minutes the display worked normal and perfect.

Now I tried touching the display cable near its connected to see if I could get the screen black again but no luck(!) I waited for a few hours but it kept on working.

So looks like the display cable is not the problem.

After that I reassembled the macbook again. Then I turned it on: dark screen again. I did a reset and then the display worked normal again(!).

And that is still the case now. If I turn it on sometimes the display stays black (blacklight still working) and after a reset or more resets it starts working normal again.

Don't know what to do next...
