iMac Thin red vertical line halfway on 27" display (Mid 2010)

Hi,

Has anybody experienced anything similar? The Red line appeared not too long ago - doesn’t go all the way like in other cases I have seen. Red, quite thin just above halfway up - most visible on dark backgrounds, less so on others.

Mid 2010 A1312 (EMC 2390)

2.8 GHz Core i5 (I5-760)

16gb ram

Currently installed High Sierra.

The graphics card is Radeon HD 5750 - has been fine up until this appeared. No line on external display.

Any advice or direction for research is appreciated. Thanks!

Answer this question I have this problem too

As you state the external display doesn’t show it we can surmise the issue is within the internal display assembly not the GPU logic. The OS level won’t be a factor either.

Here’s the IFIXIT guide to replace the display: iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390 Display Replacement and here’s the needed part [linked product missing or disabled: IF174-034]

Thanks for the help. I think I won’t bother with changing the LCD as it’s not worth the money I think at this point. Good to know though, hopefully it won’t get worse.
