“Service Battery” – how can I disable my Battery

Hello everyone, my battery is defected, I have the warning 'service battery’ which means I need to change the battery asap. However I have issues with Apple and they are not fixing it for free - even though it is classified as a defected macbook pro - Anyways right now I don’t want to use the computer while I have the warning sign…

I am okay with using the computer plugged in all the time. What I want to ask is, is there any way that I can disable the battery? So I won’t be harming my computer, I just don’t want it to function it at all…

PS: I try to buy a battery from ifixit but it is not possible for them to ship it to my country… so sad, if anyone knows another good company that sells macbook battery I would be so happy to hear that

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

What country are you in and did you go to an Apple Store or an Authorized Service Provider?

Well, you are going to experience performance drops significantly but if that’s what you wish, one answer coming right up!

Frankly I would just remove the battery in general and store it in a well ventilated place. You can remove the battery with the guide below, and I also highly recommend you buy the adhesive remover too so you do not risk tearing or puncturing the battery while attempting to remove the battery.

This sounds like a personal question but if you don’t mind, which country do you live in? I am asking this so I can see if I can source you a battery that can be shipped to your country.

@ajcooke01 - If he does this he will void his warranty! Remember he wants Apple to replace the battery under warranty as its one of the systems which Apple posted that have a battery issue Apple’s MacBook Pro battery recall! and here's the Apple S/N checker 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) Battery Replacement Program

by

@danj Didnt say he couldn’t do that? “However I have issues with Apple and they are not fixing it free - even tough it is classified as a defective MacBook Pro”

If his system checks out with the checker then they need to do it! If the S/N is just in front of or behind the ones in question Apple often will believe they missed a run and will honor the warranty.

I've had a few systems which where just outside of the range on a different issue and time point. But, after talking to them I was able to get it done. I'll admit we had quite a lot of systems so they sorta realized it was a token they had to pay out.

As of late Apple support is trimming servicing on edge issues. I have a feeling this maybe related to the two black eye they have right now.

Left eye - keyboard issues with the butterfly's

Right eye - i9 heat issues (which is still not fixed properly) bad cooling design

@sturec22 will need to be firm and work up the food chain. The best window is Tuesday mid day to go back to the store to talk with the Apple Store service manager and then the store manager and may need to talk to a lawyer to have a proper letter written.
