My screen is completely unstable, screws fell off.

Hey, i’d appreciate it a lot if you could help me fix this.

The macbook screen is completely unfixed, reason being the screw fell off a few months a go and the problem got worse and worse breaking the plastic.

Now i can’t use my macbook if i do not have back support as it will fall to the front or to the back.

I was thinking on buying the screws perhaps?

@jose8a8a So you are looking for a replacement screw you say? I mis-read the question. I am unsure what size screw it is so I will let the professionals deal with this one. @mayer @danj Do you guys have any idea what screw size and type we are looking for here?

by

@ajcooke01 yeah i believe it would be the cheapest solution. However i posted to get some opinions from professionals.

@jose8a8a I am the new guy here (and I am only 14 so I have a loooooong way to go before I am up on their level) so I don't want to point you in the wrong direction.

I think you’ll need a bit more than the screws here. Looking at the vid it’s clear the hinge clutch is gone which is why the lid is not staying up. I’m on the road right now when I get back home in six hours I’ll post the needed parts as I don’t have my notes with me.

In the meantime stop using your system & power it down as you don’t want to damage the cables! That would make this a more expensive repair.

One last question looking at your picture it appears the shank of the screw is still present in the lid is that the he case?

IFIXIT offers the hinge/cable assembly but is currently out of stock on the screw set.

TheBookYard in the UK also has the hinge/cable assembly

When you talk with them ask them for a set off screws TheBookYard Ask for Jon or Nick, Tell them you posted a Q here ;-}

If the right also needs replacing (a strong possibility) you’ll need to go here as TheBookYard is currently out of stock: Aliexpress - iSight Camera Cable WIFI Antenna

OK, that takes care of the needed parts. The next issue is how to pull this off! Follow this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015 Display Assembly Replacement. Once the display is free you can slide off the plastic clutch cover to replace the hinge/cable assembly and its screws. Double check the other hinge to make sure its in good shape before finishing things. Slide the clutch cover back on and follow the procedure pin reverse.

Hey Dan,

Thanks for your response.

I did my best to show a closer look with more detail on the damaged part.

I’m not totally sure what is a shank, however i believe you mean the part where the screw goes in which i believe it is here still :D

Let me know your best solution to this problem :D

Yes, the screw heads snapped off and the threaded part of the screw (shank) is still present - Ouch!

Once you get the display is off things should be easier to see. Take a good still image of just the area and post that so I can see it before you do anything to take them out Adding images to an existing question.

I'm off to bed so in the morning I'll take a look for your posting if you're upto it ;-} Otherwise wait until to get the parts.
