iPhone SE Hot after screen replacement

Ipohone SE got very light water damage last week (water dripped on front). Phone screen went from distorted colors to total darkness after a couple of days. Phone still rang and alarm worked, etc. I placed phone in a silica pack bag to dry out any remaining moisture. Ordered screen replacement and just completed it. Phone turned on and screen was fully working and responsive. I was so happy !! I plugged it in and was holding it, getting ready to put my SIM card back in, when I felt it get really hot really quickly. Also, when screen came on at first, battery level was 35%. After a quick bit it went down to 25%. I ordered the replacement screen with all the bits already attached so I didn’t need to touch them. Only thing that looks odd is that the square thing located in the uppermost right part of the phone base side of the phone (as opposed to the screen half of the phone), looks to have the black tape(?) torn on it. Could that be causing a short? Sorry my question sounds so amateur, but I am an amateur.
