PS4 Slim steady blue light for around 15 seconds and then off; no fan

I have uploaded a video

https://youtu.be/1aCFAd6w-aA

It might have fallen from vertical to horizontal 1 or 2 times; but never dropped from height. The fan gets on and off instantly as you can see in the video. Blue light is not pulsing type. Happened during gaming maybe 1 or 2 hours into a game; no fan noise was noticed (overheating etc) but that im not so sure.

Already tried these but no progress. There is no repair shop around here.

- Power supply changed. - HDD and fan disconnected and started. - Held the power button to boot into safe mode. - Inserted disc (disc goes in but then eject does not work; have to manually remove) - Tried to switch on with controller. - Changed thermal paste - different cables and/or wall sockets etc - applying more pressure on the processor by bending the clamp a little. - Visually inspection revealed nothing

Update (11/14/2018)

Ok so the southbridge chip was replaced. Now the fan is working and there is infinite pulsing blue light with no video. Also not possible to boot into safe mode. :(

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Simple answer, not going to be complex, it is the blue light of death. Plenty of short youtube vids to fix that problem, try a few and i’m sure it will fix it. All the steps you took were overall unnecessary but hey you increased its lifespan for sure.

Thank you for the reply but i am looking for a technical answer from a site like this.

Pulsing blue light is different; its actually a boot sequence and checks for other system components; the ps4 is actually running and doing a system check unlike mine. I would like to know what this 'it' is. is it the southbridge chip that verifies the ps4 is ok?

Ok so you said you booted into safe mode? Did it work? Did it make it to the screen and if so are their any options on there you would be willing to do to see if it fixes it? Including an hard boot? Maybe try another hdd, you said you disconnected and reconnected it but maybe a whole new one could give different results. Even trying an blank one could give you results; prompting you to install the os for it. I have never heard of your issue specifically, but if it cannot detect an component therefor turning off and me trusting that you haven't messed up your ps4 while taking it apart, the hdd could be a strong signal of that. But explain more on safe mode please. With that all being said as well, when it is powered on, can it power devices from its USB ports? Does the control connect to it as well in that time span? Could be a chipset problem in which is pretty much impossible to fix. Some said that you can replace the BGA chip. I would just buy another motherboard for it for your model that is somewhat cheap.

I wouldn't do unless nothing else works but if you replace the motherboard and put it all back to together, there should be no reason to why it wouldn't fix it.

PS. Even if its not completely the same, if you haven't, I would still try some videos over the topic to see an visual and experienced person having a similar problem.

"I wouldn't do unless nothing else works"

this exactly why i am looking for a definite answer. I live in india and i bought this for around 380usd (yes thats how sony have priced it here; 500gb model).

No i havent been able to get into safe mode. already tried a spare laptop drive of 1tb still the same.

it seems my ps4 starts and then freezes. Like the fan gets on and then stops. also no pulsing of the blue light. Since the psu is ok (which i know because i interchanged my friends psu), it kinda shows the IC which pulses the bluelight and gives the pwm signal to run the fan must be same and that is what must be tested.

I dont think its the apu and i dont want to unnecessarily try stuff. But ultimately if i dont get any answers the southbridge/aeolia chip is what im guessing. But its only a guess and so im waiting. :(

Ok well like I said with it being a chipset problem "south bridge" problem was what I was kind of thinking, in which I was looking up, and its a very technical problem to fix but it can be achieved apparently. If you think you are experienced enough, try and do so. You have nothing to lose now bud, it couldn't possibly be a simple fix at this point. So if you would like me to help you reinforce your guess, I'm going to say that is right.

oh thats the chip. yes i wanted to confirm because if i removed the board and took it to a laptop motherboard repair shop (which is available), they charge 40 to 50 USD for BGA chip change. So i had to get a confirmation. I will order that chip today but i guess it will take about a month to arrive. Its from china.

Thanks for the link
