do I need a new battery
my shark will turn on for a sec and turns back off. does this mean i need a new battery?

It is entirely possible that this is a battery issue. I would replace it and then re-evaluate. You will at least have a known-well starting point should further troubleshooting become necessary

If the vacuum does not work even after replacing the battery then there is something else wrong that is to be determined by further troubleshooting.
