It’s definitely not a screen brightness issue. Once, it started working after I switched batteries around a couple times and shook the calculator, but became impossible to turn on again the next day.

Open the calculator and see if you can see any loose connections. The fact that it worked intermittently when shaken makes me think something may be loose, or that the battery terminals are corroded. Hope it’s something that simple, good luck!
