OWC with SSD via USB from old MAC not recognized on another MAC

My MAC died. Placed the SSD blade into a OWC Envoy Pro with a perfect match. When I plug it via USB into a working MAC it does not show up. If I use disk utility I see it as OWC Envoy media. However, I am unable to see the drive so that I can remove files.

Thanks

Marc

What was the OS version you had on your Mac system and what is the OS version on your new system?

You may need to upgrade your MacOS to High Sierra on your new system if your dead system was running anything older. As your systems firmware needs an upgrade to recognize the newer file system APFS.

What is going on when I plug a GUID external into a machine with APFS and it won't see it? P.S. I can migrate from it, but not see it otherwise.

Both HFS+ and APFS use GUID so I'm not sure I follow you here...

I think you're asking if a APFS drive can be accessed by a HFS+ based system. Well, yes & no ;-}

Apple claimed Sierra would recognize an external drive but I've not personally tested this. Anything older the answer is no.

Upgraded the OS to Mojave and that solved the problem. Thanks so much for the solution!
