Sudden "No Battery Available" error, multiple SMC resets to no avail
Hi folks,
I was recently greeted by the dead battery icon (black "X” inside the battery icon in the menu bar, and it says "No battery available“ when I click it). This came out of the blue, without any warning (I've had the "Please service the battery“ on previous Macs I owned).
I've tried to reset the SMC twice (for my 2015 MBA: turn it off, hold shift + ctrl + option + power for 10 seconds, release, see the charger led blink and turn back on) with no effect.
Even if the UI says so, the battery isn't actually fully dead: when I unplug the charger, the computer hibernates.
Any advice? Is there any way to probe the integrity of the SMC?
Kind regards,
—Pierre-Yves
Edit:
Here's the CoconutBattery screenshot with the power cord plugged in:
I can't take one on battery, the computer immediately goes to sleep.
Is this a good question?

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I won't be able to take a screenshot with the MagSafe disconnected, the computer immediately goes to sleep mode.
Would the "plugged" screen cap still be useful?

Yes, the plugged in one is still useful. Sometimes you can get enough charge to snap with the battery only condition which gives us an idea on the drain in case its high. Post what you can.

There you go! I'll try to take one as fast as possible after unplugging, but I'm not too hopeful, it may still hold enough charge for the computer to hibernate, but it doesn't respond to the OS when probed...

Well, "cmd + shift + 3" doesn't work after unplugging. The screen goes dark immediately. Hitting the key combo turns it back on for an instant, but no screenshot is taken.
Surprisingly, the caps lock LED remains reactive deep into the slumber.

@danj I suppose there's no hope given the CoconutBattery output...
