No picture only sound on my Vizio E400i-B2 TV

Hi, hoping I’ll get help fixing my problem here!

So, there’s no image, but there is sound, on my model no. E400i-B2 television.

A few things: I’ve tried all the inputs with the same result (sound but no picture); I’ve tried the “flashlight” test, as best I could with my cell phone light, but I couldn’t really tell whether there was movement or not; however, there’s definitely a grey glow to the screen when it’s on; and when the screen’s first turned on the Vizio logo and then a grey bar displaying input/channel/time/aspect ratio etc. momentarily appear.

Also, as I’ve come across this fix a few times on the boards, I want to note that, to my untrained and lacking in a magnifying glass eyes, the pins in the connectors between the power and the LED boards seem solidly soldered on (nothing loose, no cracks visible to me).

Thanks for reading and if I’ve done it right there should be photos of the various boards along with a few misc. related pics attached to this post somehow...

Note: I already tried out Vizio’s troubleshooting steps: unplug TV, press and hold TV power button for 30 seconds, turn TV back on, voila; press and hold remote’s “mute” button for 5 seconds, voila; etc. etc.

try a real flashlight in a darkened room to see if it is your backlight. Since it shows something on startup it could be the backlight turning off or the main board (my first suspect) not sending a signal. You can also remove the back of your TV and turn it on. There are enough holes in the sheetmetal to the panel where you can see if the backlights are on. Measure the voltages on connector CN202 or CN1 and let us know what you get.

First, thanks for your reply!

So I tried a good flashlight tonight from different angles and distances but wasn't able to make anything out. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong. I also took the back of the TV off and turned it on. When on there's a bright light coming out from a number of the openings in the sheet metal and plastic back there.

Re: voltages: I don't have a way to read them at the moment. It'll probably take me a minute to get a meter.

Lastly, I forgot to mention this in my first post: the remote will turn the TV on but thereafter it has no effect; can't even use it to turn the TV off. However, there've been a handful of times since this started when I turned the set on and the image mysteriously worked. This state never lasted longer than a few hours but while it did the remote always had full functionality.
