Where would I find the 3-speed fan reostat?( near the heater motor?)

its supposed to look like a thin wafer with wire windings on it-i have looked all around the heater motor but i cant find it-my heater has only high speed on it-can anyone help?

Not sure what exactly your problem with the fan etc is, but you do know that a relay and a resistor are a part of the blower circuit to control the fan speed. The blower motor relay is located on the left center of the engine compartment. The blower resistor is located under the center of the dash. Faulty fan speed can be caused by one of 3 components:

A defective blower resistor, or a defective blower fan relay as well as a bad blower motor switch. Last but not least if it does not work at all, it could be the blower motor itself. More info is found here Good Luck

In my '99 Cavalier the Fan blower motor is under the dash on passenger side, the Resistor pack is mounted on the firewall, you have to remove the blower motor to get to the resistor pack to check for resistance, usually one fan speed indicates the Resistor pack needs replacement.
