How do I interact with this tablet with a broken screen and battery?

Ok this is a unique case given the limitations:

  1. The screen is dead with no way of repairing
  2. The battery is also dead
  3. It supports OTG, however since there is no battery, I can’t simply attach a mouse to interact with it.

It has these specifications:

  1. Supports OTG
  2. Has HDMI support
  3. Has SD card slot

From this, I have two options which I have narrowed down:

  1. By connecting it to a Macbook Air, where I can interact it (given there is a method that does not require USB debugging and no root.)
  2. Connect it via OTG, but via a USB hub where I can charge while having a mouse input at the same time. Is there such a thing?

Hi @rwalmond ,

Have you thought about fully charging the battery first and then using an external monitor connected via the mini HDMI port to view the display whilst you scroll through using an OTG connected mouse and then transferring data via WiFi or to SD card?

I'm thinking that if the battery is faulty as opposed to just being "flat" that trying to connect power to it and using a mouse at the same time mightn't work, but not sure about this.

Yes I have tried to charge it overnight with the original adapter, however it didn't charge and it registered the battery level as 1%.

Also, the screen works fine. It's the touch overlay that is broken.

So, that is why I still think there is a way for an OTG input while having it charge at the same

Hi @rwalmond ,

An OTG adapter connected to the tablet tells the tablet to supply power to the tablet's USB port so that a mouse etc can work as it will be supplied with power from the tablet. i.e. tablet internally switches USB power connections around from power into the tablet (normal mode) to power out from the tablet (OTG mode)

You will have to connect the mouse to a powered USB hub that also feeds power to the tablet to charge the battery and run the tablet and DO NOT use an OTG adapter as the power supply will not go into the tablet to run the tablet.

See the image below of how an OTG cable is wired and notice that there is an Earth placed on the “sense” wire in the tablet’s USB port which “tells” the tablet to switch the tablet’s USB port power connections around from power in to power out.
