Screen Unresponsive to Touch, but Touch ID still works

So I cracked my phone screen a couple of months ago, and got a replacement about a month back. It worked well for about 3 weeks, but all of a sudden, the phone would become unresponsive to touch on the lock screen. I would still be able to unlock it using touch ID, but the screen would stay unresponsive. I found that if i locked the phone and kept trying to get the lock screen to become responsive to touch, by turning it on and off and continually attempting to bring up the bar from below(the one with brightness and volume), it would eventually work. The only problem is that it took quite a while to get this to work, by continually locking and unlocking the phone, and the number of attempts it took each time to get the phone to unlock became more and more. Eventually it took upwards of 30 minutes nonstop locking and unlocking every time i locked the phone. At that point I just decided to keep the phone unlocked at all times, but I still sometimes accidentally lock the phone because I was so used to doing that. I have tried updating to newest IOS, hard resetting(home and lock button for 10 seconds), and even deleting most apps and other miscellaneous data on my phone, thinking it might be a storage problem, but to no avail. If you have any ideas on what to do, I would appreciate any advice

The easiest thing to do to rule out any software issues is to do a full reset of the phone back to factory. (Backup the phone to iTunes first). If the problem persists, it’s likely hardware related. I would try a new screen in that case. The iPhone 6 Plus has a history of touch disease but since you have your phone listed as a 6s plus, that shouldn’t be an issue.

If a factory reset and a new screen don’t fix the issue, it has to be something deeper within the phones logic board.
