Can if Fix a YLOD by replacing the motherboard?

Would it be possible to get a new PS3 and use it's motherboard to replace the motherboard in an YLOD'd PS3? Like most people with YLOD I am trying to get the data off of my Hard Drive. Will it make me reformat the hard drive?

alienkid619, yes it will eliminate your YLOD, but you will still run into trouble with your HDD. I beleive that any drive formatted by a PS3 is unreadable except on the PS3 it was formatted on. It can not be read on any other PS3 or even a PC. For some reason I was thinking you had backed these up on an external. Unfortunately the HDD is tied to the old PS3 and will not work in any others without having to be formatted first. This is a security implementation put in place by Sony to prevent piracy. So I would definitely at least try to fix yours and back up your data so that you can transfer it if you have to. Good Luck
