Display works only when opened less than 45 degrees. How to fix it?

I have a 2017 MacBook 13” Function key model.

For the last 2-3 weeks I’m facing display issue, when I open the lid more than 45° then it screen goes blank. If I open less than 45° it works fine. My system is out of warranty.

It seems it the issue is caused due to bad flex cable. Can anyone guide me on how to fix this?

Sorry to say a lot of people are hitting this problem!

Here’s a view of the cables:

Apple is the only source for the needed part here which is the full screen assembly as the cables are permanently attached which makes this such a nasty issue as int will cost you around $700 US to get replaced. I would go to an Apple Store to see if they will cover it under an extended warranty program or as a warranty exception. Press hard as you may need to talk with the support manager or even the store manager. In any case if you still get it serviced hang onto your paperwork as I’m suspecting Apple will give in as there are just to many of these. At which point they will rebate the cost of the repair.

Sorry you can't fix this the micro wires within the ribbon cable are damaged. The problem is you can't take the ribbon cable apart or replace it. Apple designed it this way!

Please don't attempt to try to fix this as all you do is trash your system! Apple will not fix your issue if the part has been altered from its design. At that point you have a very expensive paperweight!

Hi Dan, You indicate that there is a possibility of negotiating a better outcome than paying for a replacement screen. My daughters 2017 Pro has this exact same issue. Just wondering what the process is with Apple as I have never dealt with them before.

Cheers...
