Reasons for vertical lines on the screen?

I have vertical lines going across the screen of my tv (Sony 55xbr8). They are white in color and not always fully connected. Can anyone tell me where this problem is coming from or what I need to check? I have opened the back and cleaned out some of the dust and reconnected some of the cables but this did not help. Would this issue be related to the t-con board?

Update (09/04/2018)

Thanks. Here are some pictures of the screen. Hopefully this helps to identify the issue.

@blue1234 what do you mean by this “and not always fully connected.”? Post some images of what your screen shows with your question. Vertical lines caused by a bad main board or a bad T-con board will always go all the way vertical. Lines the way you describe are most commonly found with bad panels. Thanks for the response. I shouldn't have said they didn't connect all the way up and down- I had been looking at a screen with a 'wave' design in the background which made it look broken up. The lines look similar to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_uk_GQD... . If that doesn't help, I can try to get actual pictures over the weekend.

blue1234you have a complete picture behind those lines. The example in your video is not a T-con board issue but appears to be tuner issue or a scalar issue. A new main board would resolve that (most likely) as you can see it will be far more benficial to see what yuor TV shows you. Somebody elses issue with a differne tmake and model TV is not always the same.

@blue1234 start with the T-con board than the main board. Not a typical looking T-con board failure but possible.

I read on another forum that switching to Custom mode (or anything that turns off DRC) might help and so far it looks like it does. This seems to be my best bet right now- does this information help to pinpoint the issue to any additional hardware fix or is this all I can really do?

I would suspect the T-Con board, since a bad connection at the LCD edge would cause a “fully connected” white line across the screen. Start with re-seating the connectors to the T-Con, and if that doesn’t solve, try replacing the T-Con board.

Here is a site that has your T-Con board in stock: https://electropartsonline.com/sony-55-k...

Also search ebay for LJ94-02353H.

We just had a problem on our KDL-55XBR8. Ours were green vertical lines and we could only vaguely see image in back. Sound was fine. After talking to Shaw and ensuring cable box and all our lines were okay, they said it was our TV. I found my notes on a similar problem in the past. By selecting Custom the picture was there but very poor quality. The standard, vivid and cinema modes were not working. By changing DRC Mode to off, for each of standard, vivid and cinema modes the picture came back for each one of them -very good quality. I did this correction years ago with the same result but somehow the change went away not sure why. We just moved the cable box and the green lines came on. So we did not suspect the TV.

I see some people don’t know how to change the DRC mode so I have included step by step instructions. I hope they help.

Use Sony TV remote:

  • Press Options button
  • Select Picture Adjustment and press middle + button for enter
  • Select Picture Mode and press middle +. button to select
  • Press arrow down for vivid, standard, cinema or custom; press Return button
  • select each picture mode individually and do the following
  • Click down arrow to DRC mode (further down as does not show on original screen)
  • Press middle + button for entering to change
  • Use arrow to see choices for DRC mode choices
  • select Off to turn off DRC mode; press middle + button to change
  • click Return button to return to prior screen and/or back To TV

Miracle - lines disappear and Picture is great again.
