WIFI: No Hardware Installed

I get a no hardware installed and grayed out WiFi symbol with an X in it at the top of my display. All red dots in the network preferences for Bluetooth PAN, Wi-Fi and Thunderbolt Bridge. No AirPort listed. I had been watching streaming video and closed the lid. When I came back later, NO WIFI capability.

I have reseated the AirPort Card. Found one of the three wires that come off of the card and are stripped of their plastic coating and joined together at where the hinge attaches…one of them was loose. Rejoined them but no change.

I can still connect to blue tooth devices, even though it says Blue Tooth PAN is not connected in the NetWork preferences.

Is it the AirPort Card? I mean, all I did was close the lid!!!

Answer this question I have this problem too

It’s bit concerning you found things out of place inside..a second hand Mac ? Try to turn it off and do an SMC reset by pressing left shift+ctrl+alt+power button together with magsafe plugged in. You’ll see the magsafe amber light turning green for a while and back to amber, and you’re done. Hope it helps

The antenna assembly (with the cables) which is held within the back cover between the hinges can be replaced following this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Mid 2014 Display Assembly Replacement. Once you get the lid off you can slide the black clutch cover off to gain access to the antennas TheBookYard - MacBook Pro 13" Right Hinge, Antenna/iSight cable But I don’t think thats your problem a common issue with this series is the MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2013-Early 2015) I/O Board Data Cable needs to be re-inserted or replaced.
