Mac OS X Lion to el capitan

After two tries on downloading el Capitan to my mac it comes as a folder in finder, but when I click it, it says something by the lines of “the following disk images couldn’t be opened”.

So, i’m not really sure what to do. My goal is to end up with High Sierra, is there any other way to go from X Lion to High Sierra, or is there a way to download el Capitan in 2018 with out the same problem that i’ve been having previously?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

If you have a good internet connection why don’t you just use internet recovery to install the newest OS. Here’s more on it: How to reinstall macOS

But you may have a deeper issue here! The 13” Unibody MacBook Pro’s tend to have issues with its HD SATA cable. I strongly recommend you replace it if you just upgraded your drive. Here’s the part you’ll need: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2012) Hard Drive Cable. You’ll want to place some electricians tape un the uppercase where the cable crosses over. The rough surface of the aluminum case tends to wear the cable. You also don’t want to over fold the cable you want smooth arcs not sharp corners.
