syno321 disconnect every input source from your TV. Then unplug the TV. Psh and hold the power button for around 30-60 seconds. Then plug the TV and one input source only. Preferably not the cable box but try a DVD player or other coax devices and see if that makes a difference.

Without the make and model of your set, I can not state for sure the problem or the solution. In general, flat screen TVs have back lights that use either CFL or LED. These tend to run horizontally behind the screen to provide the light required to see the picture. If you have a dark area, it is possible that the back lights for that portion of hte screen no longer function. It is also possible that the t-con board or main board has failed as well.

In order to properly diagnose this problem, please update this with the make and model. If possible, posting a photo showing the problem would help as well. This is a start. If you feel confident in opening the back of the set, post photos of the boards inside the set as well.

That is a pretty sharp demarcation line and in the center of the screen, so I would suspect a T-CON board problem.

@ruggb horizontal lines are never caused by the T-con board or the main board. They are always caused by either failure of the LCD driver board or the LCD panel itself.

look at this AVS forum link, https://www.avsforum.com/threads/philips...

It is a different plasma mfg, but maybe just a rebadged Pana, but they talk about 2 boards connected to a large board. That is the same configuration my Pana Plasma has. There are many more posts than I cared to read thru, but you may want to.

@oldturkey03 A Viera is not an LCD, it is a plasma, so I don't know if there is an LCD driver in it. I don't think mine has one.

by

@ruggb my mistake. The mentioning of aT-con board is what threw me off. The horizontal black display black display on a plasma TV is commonly due a failure of the Y-sustain buffer(upper or lower) board.
