Why won't it turn on after hdd upgrade?

Ok so i was trying to upgrade my factory hd with a 500gb momentus xt drive i did everything how i was supposed and when i press the power button i hear the drive and my optical drive work, but the computer doesn't come on it is just a black screen and no lights on the keyboard but i checked the ribbon cable to make sure it was in and everything seems fine. Also i wasn't paying attention and tried screwing a screw into the external monitor port screw hole of my macbook pro and now it is stuck! Could it be that the machine recognizes the screw and is trying to send the display to an external? I just don;t know what to do please someone have an idea for me lol

The screw wont bother anything. To test out your computer, replace the old hard drive and check that everything is working with it first. You will need either the original system installation disk or a retail Mac OS system disk to format the drive before a system can be installed. Do you have an external firewire hard drive enclosure? Are you going to clone your old drive?

I Cloned my drive to a external drive i have and that is what i am using right now on my sisters macbook but I've put the original drive back in the computer but when i turn the power on i hear the drive going but nothing comes onto the screen and no lights on the keyboard i just can't figure it out since everything looks to be fine

If it won't start with the original drive pull the drive and see if it will start from the Optical drive with your original installation disk. Test both drives in another machine. When you get a known good drive then carefully install the drive, checking all the steps.

Thanks Mayer, but both the drives are good and when i power on the machine i hear the optical drive and the hard drive spin but i dont even get a grey screen its just black and the caps lock button or any part of the keyboard won't light up. Could it be the logic board even though apple put a brand new one in a few months ago?

If Apple just put a new board in, it may still be under warranty. Take it back to them and try to get a free fix first.

Just a stupid question : is the original OS installed on your new HD ?

If Yes : please restart your MBP after inserting the original factory DVD (restart your device with the "C" key switched "on" during the restarting.
