What if the digitizer doesn't come with a home button

by

you can buy the home button or the flex separately at most online shops. before you do that just check the dock connector for dirt and dust where it makes contact with the home button prongs. also check that the prongs haven't been flattened through use...gently lift up a little using something like a flathead screwdriver.

most digitisers are sold with out the home button installed. if you want to avoid the hassle of removing the digitiser then you will need to purchase the complete display assembly.. like this iPhone 3G Front Panel Assembly

No. It's not unless you want to buy a new already put together digitizer. To get the glass off you will need to heat it up, i usually use my heat gun at about 150 to 200 c.
