Recharging Kindle battery seems to drain power.

My Kindle Paperwhite battery was down to about 1/4, so I plugged it in to recharge. When I went to check on it a couple hours later, it gave the “out of battery” symbol (battery with an exclamation point in the middle). I tried a hard restart with it plugged into the wall, but all it does is light up for a couple seconds, then give me the same “out of battery” symbol. The battery seems to have drained instead of charging. Is this fixable, or is it just time to throw this unit away and get a new one?

same with mine when ever i used it while charging it goes down and i dont know y but when i dont use it it goes up

Using the device WHILE charging puts A LOT of stress on the battery therefore, draining the battery. That is what I know about draining while the device is plugged in. Hope this helps, Kyle.

Anne, if your still having this problem, i 'd suggest that you get a fresh battery on amazon.com/store

Feel free to email me at matthewmuehlberger6@gmail.com for further help. Getting a fresh battery should HOPEFULLY help.

You do not need to throw it away, as you can replace the battery pretty easily. The battery is probably the problem here, not the other parts of the kindle. I will provide an iFixit guide for you as well as a link to a replacement battery below. However, the battery is not sold by iFixit and I cannot guarantee it will work.

I also have had this problem, I charge it overnight and in the morning it is completely discharged and showing the battery thing. The battery is NOT bad, there's just no charge in it because the Kindle does something weird.

I have fixed it in the past by using other chargers and after a bit cycling the power a couple of times. It eventually starts working again, you just have to out stubborn it. This is probably the fifth time I have had it do this.

Thanks, I think the "something weird" was my problem. The "no-charge charging session" happened a few times, then stopped happening. Why? Who knows?

Is the battery over 5 years old?

If so, it is very easy to replace.

I cannot provide a direct link, but you can always order a fresh battery on the amazon website. Hope this helps. Have a nice day, cathy.

This happened to my Paperwhite as well! Discharges (quickly) while plugged in. For me, it happens when it's plugged into a very low-power source, such as a multi-charger with other devices also charging. I'm able to overcome the problem by plugging it directly into the power brick with a dedicated cable. It feels like it needs 5W if power (I'm guessing) to charge, or else it discharges.

It's not a problem with the battery, because once it's charged the battery life is normal.
