iMac won’t turn on after SSD install. No LEDs, no sound, nothing.

Last week my iMac crashed and wouldnt boot back to the desktop. I tried ctrl/cmd/r boot to no avail. I was hearing clicking noises from the HDD and decided to swap it out with an 1TB crucial mx500 SSD.

Fast forward a week and I’ve completed the SSD install and put everything back together. I did this install to a tee, including installing the relevant owc SATA cable and thermal sensor.

The moment of truth comes and... nothing. The power cable definitely works and so does my outlet. This is an issue with the iMac.

I havent completely adhered the lcd panel back on, so I’m still able to look inside. When connected to power and pressing the power button, I’m getting no response from any of the LEDs on the logic board.

I tried removing and re-plugging in the power button cable connected to the psu, and I did the same with the short ribbon cable which connects the PSU to the logic board. Still nothing.

I was very carefull with the components when I had them out during the SSD install, so I’d be suprised if I’ve somehow bricked the PSU or logic board.

Where do I go from here? Is there any way to test the power coming in to the PSU with a multimeter, if so, how would I do this?

Carefully take the Power supply out so you can inspect the back cable did you pill out one of the contact pins? Take a continuity meter to check. If OK re-install making sure the connector is fully seated. Also make sure the AC line is fully seated as well.

Will do.Ill report back later. Which one is the AC line?

Thats the cable to cable connection (last one)in the take apart process.

Basically, you have three cables: The AC (loose), board DC cable underneath and then the signal ribbon cable on top (installed in that order).

Ok, great, thank you.

Turns out I hadn’t plugged in the cable at the heel of the PSU (the AC loose?). Mac turned on and I’m currently downloading Mavericks. Thanks guys.

You may have short circuited the logic board while putting the screen on.

How could that be? I attached the lcd screen without power attached before trying to turn it on.
