MacBook won't turn on or charge

Hi,

I bought my MacBook Pro from a reseller under 3 months warranty,

There is no Apple Store in my country (Sri Lanka)

I am a light user, my system suddenly turned off and won’t turn on at all!

When I connect the MagSafe the light doesn’t show as well the system doesn’t charge or turn on.

I gave it back to the shop I bought as it was under warranty, But, its been a week now and he still hasn’t fixed it.

He said there was a problem on the logic board a small power issue and now thats fixed, and the SMC chips needs to be replaced. If he gets this repaired how can I check whether this MacBook will not give me any troubles again?

Or, should I ask for a refund and buy the 2017 MacBook Pro base model?

Looking for a good answer

Answer this question I have this problem too

Not an easy question!

The older MacBook Pro can be upgraded with a new drive or additional RAM (upto 16 GB) so it may offer you growth. The newer 2016 and onward systems have soldered in storage & RAM so what you get is as much as you’ll get without replacing the complete system.

In addition the keyboard has had some issues with dust and debris getting under it causing the keys to fail. While Apple has both addressed this with a service program from date of original purchase 4 years to be repaired under an extended warranty you would need to find a local authorized service center or find your way to an Apple Store in another country. In the most current version of the system (2018) Apple improved the design but we don’t know if its enough of an improvement yet as it just came out.

You might want to try out the keyboard as some people don’t like the short travel and it’s a bit noisier than the older systems which have a longer travel and are very quiet.

As far as the repairs as you’ve outlined here its hard to tell what the issue was and how its being fixed. As to being reliable afterwards it depends on the quality of the workmanship. If done correctly you’ll have a system that should last you a good 4-5 years as long as you don’t get it wet/spill a drink, bang/drop or have something heavy sit on it.

And it just suddently switched off,

Without any issue, i have no idea on this as well,

As far as i am concernded is what i want to know is, after it is repaired by my reseller, how do i check that it is fully repaired amd working well, and this would not happen again?

Let me give you an analogy... Your cars piston rings need replacing so you give your car to the auto mechanic to fix. How do you know if he really replaced the rings? He could have just put sawdust onto the oil you wouldn't be the wiser until the muffler was coughing up blue smoke again.

Sadly this is no different you would need to go in and inspect the parts to see what was changed out and if done well. Don't forget just the act of opening the system if one is not careful could damage something in the process. But thats the only way and you still need to know what you are looking at.

Just like a doctor knows what a healthy persons insides look like and a sick persons.

If it was me, I would stick with the 2015 model as it offers future options unlike the newer system.
