Why does it say the storage space is almost full when it's not?

My S9 says it has only about 8 GB free space, but just a few days ago, it was more like 40GB. I haven't added more than a few MB of stuff since then. Why is it saying this under settings, and how do I get settings to reflect what's really there? Thanks - Ari Lipiansky

because samsung still has no clue as to how storage works. they also cant compress any files so that will take up a ton of storage. try going into the settings and then find the device care. just click each thing, i think its storage, memory, and battery. click clean now. if that doesnt solve your problem i dont know what else you could do but call samsung or your carrier.
