I plug my microphone into my PS4 controller and it acknowledges that the microphone is plugged in but doesn’t actually project any of my noise to other players. Is this an internal thing as it doesn’t work with other devices??

If I read your question correctly, you are saying the microphone doesn't work on other devices? if that is true it is the microphone that is the problem, not the PS4. An easy way to test this would be to use it on a phone or a computer and see if you can record or audio or talk to someone else through the microphone. If it doesn't work anywhere else, replace the microphone.
