Can an iPod touch 6th gen battery be used in a 5th gen?

Curious as to if a 6th generation iPod touch battery will work in a 5th generation iPod touch. I know the 5th won't work in a 6th because the 5th is taller. A 6th will fit in a 5th, but I don't know if it will work. My guess is that it will, but I'd like a for sure answer before soldering it in.

I haven't tried this myself but based on the pictures I have seen online, they look fairly similar.

If you already have one on hand, I would double check the polarity to insure that the Apple engineers didn't flip things around just to cause grief (like they do with FPC connectors) and do a dry install (no adhesive, no soldering) just to see if everything fits nicely.

I totally forgot I had a spare 5th gen iPod laying around. I installed a 6th Generation battery to it and it powers on and charges fine. So it’s confirmed it works. As for any long term issues, I doubt there’d be any because the specs of both batteries are very close.

And yes the batteries do look fairly similar. But the 5th gen battery is taller where as the 6th gen is shorter. So physically a 5th gen battery will not fit inside a 6th gen. The specs on a 5th gen are rated as...

3.7v, 3.8Wh, 1030mAh

And the specs on a 6th gen are rated as...

3.83v, 3.99Wh, 1043mAh

What is the length of iPod Touch 5 battery compare to iPod Touch 6

I had a shop replace my 5th gen battery and they put a 6th gen in it, only lasted 2.5 years and the battery drained in 16 hours just sitting on desk, so I learned how to do it myself, so I'll see how long this one lasts.

Turns out an iPod touch 6th gen battery can be used in a 5th gen. Here is a quick video I did showing proof. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQ9R2oQR...
