Why did ice start cooling my fridge and freezer

My fridge and freezer wasn’t getting cold so I asked my neighbor for ice and not long after my freezer started working as well as my fridge...how come it helped it work then next day it went back to warm?

are you implying that the ice caused your fridge to run (compressor and fans making noise), or that it kept your items cold?

Because the first option really shouldn't have an influence on the function of the fridge's hardware itself, but the physical presence of ice, absorbs and dissipates heat, causing the surrounding area to become cold.

The fridge was staying warm for 2 days and nothing was working so yes I added ice cubes and a couple minutes after the freezer was starting to get cold and then a couple hours later it was freezing the ice cube tray and water bottle and the fridge was becoming cold, it then later that night the temperature seemed to go down again...so just wondering what the problem would be? Is the relay done? Someone said that when we plugged it in the wall the the plug outlet damaged the relay, but the breaker didn’t jump and other things work in that outlet...now I put warm water and I feel it cool again? Please help

i think you would need a physical diagnosis. use a multimeter and test for continuity of components. it is quite possible a relay was damaged, however, it could be that they are not correctly installed, or even something else is having an issue. without seeing it, i cant really diagnose it perfectly.

I would start by unplugging it, waiting ten minutes or so, then plugging it back in. if you hear the sound of the motor from the fridge, then the relay is working. if you dont, all that means is that its not triggering.

i do recall while in an extreme heat wave, someones relay expanded due to the heat, and locked in place. perhaps that is what happened? then when cooling out the area, the relay sinked some of the heat to the area, and was able to function shortly?

there are also possibilities that the compressor is not functioning properly.

Ok thank you

Oh how do I know if the motor is working?

by

you should be able to hear the fridge start-up within one minute of plugging it in, and turning it on. a light rumbling noise as the motor begins to tumble.
