Touch screen freezes + no auto brightness

Hello together,

tried search but haven't yet found a similar issue - but maybe someone saw something alike...

So I replaced my (smashed) iPhone screen with "complete assembly" from iFixit, now experiencing interesting behaviour:

  1. Sporadically the touch screen won't work; it might be "fixed" by locking with power button and then unlocking the phone via home button
  2. iOS 11.4.1 won't show "auto brightness" option - I assume a matter of ALS, but I supposed that "complete assembly" from iFixit doesn't require to replace the ALS/Speaker/Camera assembly as well...

Anyone who met such things?

Factory reset won't help against that, unfortunately. Already tried.

Cheers

Alex

You possibly have a defective replacement screen. If you bought a complete assembly, including FCAM/Sensor flex, then you could try to replace that flex with the one from the original screen (see this guide). That defeats the purpose of buying a complete assembly but it will help you identify the problem.

However, if the touch doesn't function properly that's a bigger issue. If you can, put back the orignal, damaged screen...assuming it works even though it is smashed. My concern here is that a smashed screen means the phone received physical damage so the issue could be elsewhere. However, the first thing to isolate from a troubleshooting perspective is the screen.

If you suspect the screen, then contact iFixit Support (help.ifixit.com).

Quite a valid idea, thank you.

I expected something alike; just tried my best to avoid multiple reassembles, but seems that they are unavoidable. And yes, you're totally right, the reason to buy full assembly was exactly to avoid those reinstallations, but now I need to check where the problem actually is. The cracked screen worked fine, but it was cracked...

I will add my experience here later - probably, it could help someone some day...

Oh well. I have to answer myself.

iFixit Europe was very kind to send me a replacement screen. So far so good. However, iOS 11.4.1 won't allow automatic brightness with replacement either. Thus I had to replace the ALS+Camera+Speaker assembly altogether.

In other words, compatibility of the complete display assembly for 6s and fresh iOS should be double checked...
