Water/Ice stops after changing filter but works with no filter

I have changed my filter on my Whirlpool refrigerator many times. I recently ordered a replacement on Amazon prime (probably not the official one but it looked the same). After replacing it, then water stopped working. I replaced it with the old one and still wasn't working. Then I removed it and water works and it makes ice but it's unfiltered.

What is going on? Could I have broken something in the filter "socket" that is stopping the water?

Was considering replacing with an in-line filter behind the fridge but am concerned with creating an opportunity for a water lead.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!
