Blown capacitors on Sonos Play 1

Both caps on the high voltage side are blown. PCB markings MOV301 and TH301. At least I suspect they are both capacitors... hard to see since they are burned out... does anyone know what to order and replace with?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi! I have the same problem - looks like the TVR 07431 in my Play 1 is blown up, too. I just orderes the parts from aliexpress and am looking forward to fix the speaker. Thank you guys for sharing the information!

First of all these are not capacitors. The one marked MOV301 is a Metal oxide Varistor and the one marked TH301 is a thermistor. These are both protection devices. If they are defective, than there is probably something else wrong with the unit that caused these to fail. Can you read any markings on the parts themselves? The markings should help to locate replacements.

I also realized that and the thermistor I have found, but the varistor is completely burned out. I also found that the fuse is blown, but that was easy to find. Do you know how to safely select a MOV that would work?

I have the exact same problem. Can you tell me what value I should order? To be on the safe side I added a photo.

Thanks for the effort

Hi Ikke Zelluf (dus jijzelf), meanwhile I've found them and repaired my Play:1, as you can read in my adapted post. Did you find your replacement yet? Otherwise, you can get a TVR07431 from me quickly!

by

@Rudolf I've sent you a message through LinkedIn.

@p308

Can I also get a set 1x SCK052 en 1x tvr07431? Can you email me? markpronk@gmail.com ik kom ook uit nederland ;)

I have a blown Varistor and fuse as well after 400v on a Play 1. But when I measure the varistor it is more a diameter of 15mm then 7mm which is the size of the TVR07431.

Wouldn't this one be a better replacement? https://www.vanallesenmeer.nl/Varistor-V...

There the I max (8/20 µs) 1 time is 4500 where the TVR07431 has 1200 and the rated power is 0.60 where the TVR07431 has 0.25. I don't know if higher is better or worse ...

Thanks

In my case, the TH301 thermistor has burnt even without any problem in my electrical installation! One or two days before my Play:1 went dead, its back side was getting extremely hot. I’m not shure, but I guess the failure has something to do with the fact that for 4½ years, I always powered it off by a single pole switch, when not listening to it. Maybe power peaks at each startup wore out the TH301.

And MOV301 doesn’t look very well neither.

I couldn’t read the references anymore.

Another Play:1-owner gave me these, as you can see in the pictures:

TH301 (green thermistor): SCK 052

MOV301 (ocher metal oxide varistor): TVR 14241

The SCK 052 can be found on Ali Express.

The MOV301 in my device was a TVR 07431*, as shown by Ikke Zelluf.

This reference means 7 mm diameter, 431 voltage and D-type (high surge).

Can also be found on Ali Express, but as a regular type.

I had to order 20 pieces of each, for less than €6 in total. Delivery only after several weeks :-(

Finally, after replacing TH301 and MOV301, my Play:1 works well again, and stays much cooler at the back side.

Thanks to iFixit!

(Sonos doesn’t do repairs and asks 125€ for an exchange with another refurbished device.)

Does anyone know where I can buy a power/volume switchboard?

Hy my sonos Play 1 doesn't work anymore. When i plug it there is no light on.

I guess i have the same problem as you had. I have to open the Play 1 to try to find which components are dead. Hope i will arrive.

So more like the TVR14241 you showed.

Is that from a 230v AC model or a 110V model since the Max constant Voltage is 150V AC on this model.

Or do we really need this D variant?

Thanks
