Home button and sensors not working

I bought an iPhone 7 with a broken screen and after I replaced the screen the home button and the earpiece and front sensors are not working. The seller keeps saying everything was working and that I have broken it but I have been fixing iPhones for a while and had no problem like this even though I had been really careful with it. I don’t know what to do if eBay choose not to let me return it as apple is going to charge a lot to fix the home button. Is there anyway I could fix it without having to put more money into it? Also the phone takes a really long time to turn on which probably has to do with the home button not working.

Is it your first time doing a screen replacement on an iPhone 7?

It could be that the front camera or home button flex got teared / damaged during removal when transferring it from the old screen to the replacement screen.

You may be lucky with it just being the front cam if it boots up normally with home button plugged in but front camera unplugged.

The proximity sensor, try testing it without it being seated in the screen. Covering the sensor with your hand should be enough to get it to turn off the screen during calls.

Also about the earpiece issue, it could be caused by the audio IC going bad. To diagnose this there a a few symptoms to look out for:

- Voice record can't start recording

- Speaker icon greyed out during calls

- iPhone getting stuck on apple logo (Unbootable)

- iPhone is very laggy, touch response bad.

I reseated the connections and now the earpiece speaker is working but the proximity sensor is still not working

Does the proximity sensor marked in red in the linked image looks like this?

If not, the proximity sensor could of been pried off during removal of the front cam during the screen replacement.

If you didn't do testing prior to taking apart the device then I don't think you have a case. It is extremely common for technicians to damage the iphone 7 home button flex and you acknowledge here that you had misalignment on the fcam flex which tips the odds toward the 'buyer-induced' problems instead of 'seller-lied' You best option is to get a new screen from apple which will come with a new home button and fingerprint sensor, as well as fcam assembly. Cost is about $129 or so.

The phone came with the home button flex damaged. The seller managed to break the screen into three different parts when trying to repair it himself. And I was wrong about the earpiece speaker working it doesn’t work

If the home flex is damaged then you'll have to go to Apple to get a replacement home button---which is sold as part of a screen that also includes a new fcam/prox sensor, ear speaker etc. Your other option is to live with using assistive touch.
