Is my hard drive disc repairable?

My iPod classic 160 GB stopped working randomly (not after a fall or smth).

I tried formatting it but it always stops on random songs when synchronising.

It can actually still hold and play about 4500 songs, and some more but some of them can't play. The other ones won't even synchronise.

I checked and I have 5200 reallocs and 176 pending sectors.

Is this disc drive beyond repair and should I just try installing another one or is there anything I can try with this one on software or physical level?

Rather than just doing a simple reformatting, try erasing the drive and use the security option of writing zeros. This will map of any bad blocks and note them in the directory so they will not try to be written to.

UPDATE

To do this go to Disk Utilities > click on the drive you want to erase> In the box that shows up click on the box in the lower left corner called Security Options > move the little shield to the left away from Fastest > run it.

This kind of diagnostic data and performance usually suggests major crashes inside the drive casing, it will keep escalating.

Just get a newer drive if it is available. It is not possible to repair a hard drive mechanically.
