Boot into SAFE (shift) mode

If it progresss past the blue screen run Applications->Utility->Disk Utility->Disk First Aid tab: repair disk and repair permissions.

If safe boot fails and you have access to another Mac Target boot (T key) and connect to the other machine with a Firewire or USB cable. Run the same application from the other Mac

Reboo and see what happens.

If this is acceptable please remember to mark it.

Good Luck,

N.

Sounds like your RAM isn't in, open it up, and check that it's in.

If the RAM isn't in, it would more likely beep than chime. It sounds like the hard drive is either not bootable for some reason, or dead. A blank screen after a chime generally means that the computer is looking for a bootable volume but failing to find one.

No, a hard drive failure will bring up the same screen a computer looking for a bootable volume- the question mark screen.
