phill driscoll. go with what pollytintop says and update on here with any change. Smashing your new digitizer is not going to fix it :-). Make sure that you have the right screen. A lot of folks receive he 3g instead of the 3gs. Check the numbers.

definitely check on your order from wherever you got it, also check on the display itself for any manufacturer markings. The seller should be in a position where they can get you a better answers.

I pulled apart my phone again today and noticed that the small rectangular connector on my original lcd screen has a larger internal rectangle than the replacement screens i have recived. The give away was that the original lcd connector "clicks" into position and stays there, the replacment lcd connector deosn`t click nor deos it stay in place...hopefully this solves the problem and can get a new lcd and pop it in asap. Will let you all know if it works in due course!!

happens to all of us at some time, the only way to tell is when you are installing, visually they are pretty similar. I hope this sorts out your problem!

first check you have ordered the right parts as 3g LCD is not compatible with 3GS. then start with a good clean and inspection of the connectors on the motherboard.. look for bent pins or dirt. The LCD almost makes a "pop" when it's on properly, you may find it isn't on correctly or is popping off as you close it.. hence lack of light.

Usually lack of any light/backlight means the screen isn't connected correctly or it is damaged. I have ordered the wrong part in the past and had the same symptoms...
