Remove the Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad stock fan from the heatsink.

Is there a way (pictures pref) to remove the fan of the core 2 duo/quad processors without detaching the heatsink from the CPU. The goal is to give it a nice de-dusting and reattach.

This is for a non-mac desktop computer.

You run the risk of damaging the CPU if you apply uneven pressure removing the fan. You could do it but I would follow Gabe' advice and use canned air instead. +

Well considering that the fan blows the dust onto the heatsink, you probably should take off the heatsink anyway to clean it.

But to answer your question, there should be some plastic tabs where if you pull it back it'll free up the heatsink... But I don't think its worth the hassle. Why can't you get an air blower to blow all the dust off?
