Mower runs fine for a while, then won't start

My mower starts on the 1st pull and I mow about a 3rd of my front yard before taking a break. When I come back in 15 minutes, it will not start. If it sits for a few hours it starts on the 1st pull again. I had a tuneup for this problem not long ago. Any ideas?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Open the gas cap so air can get in, then give it a try. If this works, clean the gas cap air filter.

Perhaps you have some bad gas in the tank. Things which can make your gas go bad:

  • If your gas is old.
  • If you buy gas which has ethanol in it.
  • If you don't mix any gasoline stabilizer with your gas in the gas can.

If you have any doubts about the quality of your gasoline, go to the auto parts store and get a can of Seafoam gas treatment (https://seafoamsales.com/small-engines/). Now take an empty gas can, put some of the Seafoam in it, and fill it with fresh gas. Now drain the gas tank on your lawn mower, swish your gas can around a bit to mix the gas and the Seafoam, and fill the tank with the gas/seafoam mixture. Now crank it up and cut the grass. If bad gas was the cause of the problem, your lawn mower should run like new after giving it the Seafoam treatment.

You might also change your fuel and air filters. Is your oil dirty? Change it. Make sure your spark plug is good - if doubts, change it.

Good luck!
