5th gen 30gb iPod overheated, shows sick face, which part to replace?

I'm not sure which I need to replace, the logic board or the hard disk; the ipod charges fine when plugged into a usb port, but won't show anything on the screen besides the charging logo, the apple logo, or the sick ipod icon.

The unit was stuck turned on for about half an hour, with the hdd spinning the whole time; it was in my pocket, and I didn't notice until it was hot enough to actually hurt me when I touched it.

It smelled like melted electronics, but I've had a look inside and can't see any obvious damage.

So - which part do you think has been damaged? Thanks.

The icon means that the disk scan was not able to recover the hard disk data. When this happens, try the steps here first. Here's what Apple says to do: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1373

sounds go to me...:-) I definitely would look at the HDD and cable I know, I know there is a "thing" that some people swear by and that is to "whack" the ipod a couple of times since the drive gets "stuck" at times :-) I prefer to replace the drive. Try a zif to usb adapter and see what you got.
