3GS screen blank after water damage, will LCD replacement help?

My iphone 3gs was submerged for about 10 seconds underwater. I have since placed the device in rice for a few days in the sun and am pretty convinced all the water has gone. The phone works fine now, it vibrates, can receive calls, and play music, but the display is completely blank and unlit. I have to 'guess' where apps are on the screen, but the touch capability of the phone still seems to be working fine. What I want to know is whether or not replacing the LCD inside the phone will fix the problem before I go out and buy one. Thanks for the help.

Jack the LCD may not be damaged... It may just be the connection. I'd follow a guide to remove the logicBoard and clean it thoroughly with a soft brush and isopropyl alcohol (90% is easily found and good enough) you can even soak the board to break up any debris left by water (unless you dropped the phone in distiller water there will always be residue) pay attention to all connectors and connections. You don't need to get too enthusiastic with other parts unless they aren't working. LCD should only require the connectors cleaning. Allow the phone to dry thoroughly, reassemble and see what happens. You may need to go over connector again but this could save you a new LCD.

Obviously if the above doesn't work it'll be a new LCD
