Trackpad no longer clicks - I need a replacement

It's quite a task but I removed the trackpad earlier today hoping that cleaning it out would get the 'click' working again. Thanks to the ifixit trackpad replacement guide!!

No luck

The mechanical click still works but not the electronic bit.

Unfortunately the guide doesn't mention a part No for the replacement (a bit odd I thought)

There's no replacement in the store for this model but the track pad for the earlier model - IF123-020-2 for the model A1425 - looks IDENTICAL. Does anyone know if it would work?

Thanks,

Tim

I think you’re encountering a simple problem here, the trackpad has an adjustment screw which needs to be loosened if you can’t get the click action to occur. Here’s the Torx screw you’ll need to adjust:

See if that fixes things first before replacing the trackpad I’ve seen it where the mechanical action appeared to work but the switch was not activated by the press as it was not deep enough for the switch to engage.

IFIXIT doesn't currently offer the needed part. Here’s two sources:

Many thanks Dan.

I wondered about the click and will go back and check it again. I tried moving that screw. The first Torx bit gave up (it twisted - not the screw). I tried with another Torx bit but couldn't move it - it is WELL Loctited in! A hot soldering iron to weaken the Loctite is next...

BUT the 'click' is there and that Torx screw seems to be well in anyway - not sure how much adjustment there is anyway.

In any case thanks for those 2 sources of a replacement trackpad.
