iPhone X Face Id after Screen replacement

Hello everybody

I had my iPhone water damaged lately and I got it out of the water working then it started to restart in a loop, so I just turned it off and let it dry for about 4 hours, after that I tried to turn it on, it worked perfectly but face id was not working, I could see moisture in the front and camera lenses so I put it in rice all the night . Then in the morning I tried to turn it on , it did but after 5 min the screen went yellow and black bars appeared all over the screen and then it just turned off, but I can still hear sound effects like charging effect . so I knew that the screen just died .i decided to repair it.

If I replace the screen what else should I replace to make the face id work again, Many people said that whatever I do I cant get the face id again unless I take the phone to apple .

PS I live in Lebanon where there are no apple stores sadly.

You can always check for Mail in Repairswith Apple if none are near you.

You will lose some features of the phone when you repair that is related to the screen. Big post on reddit regarding the ambient light sensor not working.

Good link...

For the OP, I don't believe the screen is your issue here. You most likely have a logic board problem related to the water. Leaving it in rice to dry doesn't help in any way other than to let the corrosion set in.

yes i just took it out of rice and went to a shop near me, he will diagnose the problem and tell me what is the cause of this problem, i have to wait till tommorow morning .

Yeah, it just really depends where the water went into. The phone has some insane water resistance. Saw a video of a scuba diver who found an Iphone sitting in a river for a week plus. He cleaned out the unit and dried it off and it showed practically no issue, that was noted at least.

Hopefully he can place the device in a bath to clean out some of the corrosion that developed. Keep us posted.

If you replace iPhone 8, 8 plus or X screen you need to copy the firmware data of the original screen into the new screen. The needed tool is under development. I saw some working versions, what are tested and working with IOS 11.4 and 12.0 Beta. The screen data can be cloned only to OEM screens for now.

Afte the copy of the data, the light sensor and face id works well again.

According to the teardown of Face ID, main circuits of the Face ID are exposed. Once water damaged or exposed to a relatively humid environment, there might be electricity leakage or short-circuit problem that can result in Face ID failure.
