iPhone 5s won't charge!

A client came to me saying their iPhone 5s won't charge. So naturally, I thought I would change the battery and the lightning port. I have done this and it still won't charge. Does anyone know why this might be?

Thanks

unplug the lightning connector and check if you have voltage there, if so, try checking the capacitors in the main board

The lightning connector is brand new. Why would there not be a voltage?

Is part of a defacement process, so you´ll be sure that you are introducing voltage into the main-board.

Then, if you have no voltage when connecting the lightning connector into the main-board you could know that there is a short in it, and then you can start checking all the components (it´s a very cumbersome process)
