Whirlpool wdf520padw5 dishwasher not spraying

Hi All,

My whirlpool dishwasher does not seem to spray water. It fills with water and then does not do anything. When I clear it the drain cycle works fine.

I checked the float and it does not look like its stuck.

I switched it off and on. Did not work.

I cleaned the spray arms, did not help.

I took off the water filter and the screen and cleaned them. There was nothing in the basin at the bottom of the dishwasher under the screen.

When i opened the footplate and ran the dishwasher, I could hear a few soft clicks when it got stuck. Not sure if its from the inlet valve or the circulation pump?

I have run out of ideas. Please help!

Thanks,

Sagar

I have the same issue, water will fill (now that I replaced the water inlet valve) and I replaced the float switch. Nothing happens once the water has filled. I have cleaned both top and bottom stems as well as cleaned all screens on the bottom. Help me please!!

definitely not the circulation pump in my case since I replaced it myself. PARTS are so expensive to replace. Inlet valve works, drain switch works. I think its my motor but already spent 200$ on parts and don't want to spend $126 for a new motor.

@Amit j ,

Check if there is voltage getting to the circulation pump motor terminals. if there is then it is the motor or the start capacitor if it has one - you didn't state the make or model number

by

Heres the model number MDB4949SDE3 hmm didn't check that yet...didn't know that motor has a capacitor.

In my case I ordered whole new one and thats not it. I didn't measure any dc voltage at 2 blue wires coming from motor to the circulation water pump.

Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve opens to allow water to enter the dishwasher. If the valve is clogged or defective, the dishwasher won’t get enough water to clean dishes properly. If the water inlet valve is clogged, replace it. Do not attempt to clean the water inlet valve—cleaning the valve could make it more likely to fail.

n addition, make sure that the center wash arm assembly is mating properly with the water supply nozzle.

Wash Pump Worn Bushings

There are many possible causes to this problem. If you are getting 120 volts at the pump motor a likely cause is worn motor bushings which allow the rotor to lock up on the stator. If this is the case the easy solution is to replace the pump assembly. If you’re handy you could machine up some replacement bushings and give that a try.

It was actually the float switch that it located just below the door. It has a little lever that rocks up and down and it came loose and I just put it back together and no trouble since. This is what the switch looks like. Also since I fixed this the washer washes like its brand new again lol Here is how to fix it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNu9gWv2...

I had the same problem. Removed the pump motor, cleaned it up and put it back. It works like new now. There as nothing in the motor but maybe it was stuck. Little sticky inside. Maybe the connection was not good? I turned off the switch and it took over 30 minutes to fix. When the breaker was turned on and I started the 1-hour cycle, the LED display showed that the dishwasher was resetting. Anyway, it sounds like it is washing even better than before it broke. I should add that it was the Circulation Pump part# W11032770

I replaced the inlet valve, checked and bypasses the overflow relay and replaced the pump motor but there is still no spray during the wash and rinse cycles.

Still don't know what's wrong.

Hi,

Have you checked that the spray arm outlets are not clogged up, you didn't say?

Can you hear the circulation pump operating or is it just a humming sound?

Is there water in the bottom of the dishwasher when the washing action begins?

What is the make and model number of the dishwasher?

I found this somewhere else. We couldn't get any other fix to work so we decided to try it and see what happened. It worked

We did not do the “making parts" like he does at the end. We just cleaned it out. It surprisingly had some weird stuff in it. It works better than it ever did. We may have to replace it one day, but it's been working for 6 months so far and we saved $120.00.

The impellers tend to come off of the circulation pump do to stripped/deteriorated brass threads in the impeller.

I had the same problem, went through all the online discovery Youtubes and blogs, replaced controller, water inlet valve, plunged the kitchen sink, cleaned all filters, and still there was no wash. Here is my solution: IF your dishwasher is 4 or more years old with the above symptoms of this problem where it fills and drains and seems to go through the timing, but the washer arm(s) are in the same position as when you started, then it is likely the circulation pump. I got one from Amazon for $99 (plus $15 for extended warranty), followed a wonderful YouTube that was on that Amazon pump sales page, and the dishwasher cleans like new!

I took advantage and also cleaned behind all the manifold tubing that carry water to the arms (they were YUCK behind them), and am a very happy now.
