Cause of iPhone battery issues?

Hey guys,

My iPhone 6s was being charged by my Macbook air via aa original USB lightning cable. However the lightning symbol representing 'charging' wasn't showing, yet the numbers were slowly growing as normal.

When I used an app which takes a lot of battery for it's graphics, the charging stopped going up. Normally when the symbol is showing 'charging', using the app at the same time still results in the charge going up

As the Macbook was low on charge I connected the USB cable to a electricity point. The phone slowly went flat and showed the screen which says the phone needs to be charged. So I reconnected the charging cable and it showed the flat yet charging screen for some time, hours, till it didn't show anything and was fully flat as if the battery had failed to work.

Would the iPhone 6s battery kit help fix this? Cheers thank you so much

A few things to check first before going for more expensive options:

Check charging socket for any lint / blockage as this stops the cable from going in fully.

If it is not going in fully and has a gap you need to clean with fine straight tweezers carefully without touching the 8 pins at the bottom of the charging socket.

Try another charging cable and or wall charger, it's not rare for them to go faulty or worn out.

If you have a microscope at hand inspect charging port for any pushed down pins. As these case cause a bad connection to the charging cable, in some cases pushing the cable in the direction of the charging pins would temporarily regain connection until you stopped applying pressure to it.

It sounds like Tristar charging chip damage. Was the computer detecting the phone e.g via iTunes or was it only charging from it?

That chip can only be replaced via micro-soldering and is done by people that do board level repairs for iPhones. You may be able to find someone locally in your area that does them.

Thank you so much for your response! However the phone was charging as normal, just the battery's strength failed and then wouldn't accept the charge... I tried several different lightning cables, ranging from Apple originals with various heads, to non apple products. However I just received my 27" iMac back from Apple, connected the USB cable through that to my iPhone crossing my fingers and the charging yet flat sign suddenly shows?! This happened several minutes after reading your answer, very recent.
