Motherboard vs battery problem?

Hello first of all, I'm from the Philippines.

My samsung galaxy s7 edge had a problem powering on. There used to be a blue light and i've tried all remedies found in online such as pressing volume button, etc it didnt work.

So i had to go to a repair shop and have it checked. The technician said it was the motherboard problem. I was not planning to invest so much on a defective phone so it took awhile to make a decision. At the end, i let the technician replace the motherboard and my phone seemed to be working again.

However, on the same day when i got home, i tried observing the phone and it asked for a firmware update. It was unusually getting a little hot too (like my phone with original motherboard did not have any issue with overheating) So i clicked ok and went on. That's where the problem occured. While updating, my phone suddenly turned off and it wouldnt turn on. So i went back to the technician on the next day and as he checked upon my phone, he said it was the battery problem.

I mean, can you really believe what hes saying? At first he said it was motherboard problem and later on, he says there is a battery problem also. He also told me not to update the phone anymore because the new motherboard does not match with the recent updates.

I just trusted what he told me back then. Without having my battery replaced i just got home (i didnt want to risk anymore) and my phone seemed to be working again after he tested it. So i just let it open until the battery ran out. I have to admit, for few months, i did not care about my phone anymore and left it like that. But just recently, i started remembering it and i was able to charge it but it wont turn on again.

I went back to the technician for the third time. And he said the same thing to me it is the battery problem there is nothing wrong with the motherboard. When i got back home, i charged the phone 100 percent and seemingly it was working. I mean the battery doesnt seem like a problem to me. It seems more like a motherboard problem.

When i tried resetting it, it rebooted all of sudden in the middle and after finished resetting, i turned it off first. Now when i turned it on, it got stuck with samsung logo and started getting SUPER hot. Like i got so scared it might explode.

I really dont know what to believe.

I am getting skeptical about the technicians diagnosis.

Could someone tell me if its a battery or motherboard problem?

Thanks in advance.

'''Wiki PC Philippines'''  yes it is possible. After all these month and trying to get the technician to repair it, you might as well change the battery. Then you have your answer pretty quick.

I think there are similarities with what I keep on experiencing with my S7E. After two years and roughly three months from the date of purchase, I have experienced problem with my S7E, as well. First, I encountered a random reboot. It was bearable at first thinking that maybe a particular app is the culprit but I was wrong. I have tried everything I could from safe mode, to soft reset, up to hard reset. Nothing solved the issue. It came to a point that it wouldn't boot up just with black screen and blue light. Then it would heat up. I had to wait for hours to recharge it. Then it would boot then shut down, randomly, unexpectedly. It was a hassle. I didn't root it unlike what I did with my S3 before so I don't think I have done something wrong with my phone. The screen would get frozen, colors distorted, then reboot and stuck at the S7E logo. I think motherboard or battery issue, too. I have tried pressing combinations of keys, download mode, recovery mode, everything I could try. To no avail, it wouldn't boot up properly. Nothing good happened. I just let it be a paperweight, literally for few months since August when I was able to boot it and then shut down again. Just last night, I tried again to switch it on but it didn't work at first. I tried connecting it to my laptop and it switched on. I recharged it and I was able to update it though I encountered problems updating, as well, for it kept on rebooting. I reset it again. For hours, it's working fine. Then hours ago, while charging, it randomly rebooted again. Lol. I just let it be. If it would boot properly, then good, if not, it’d be OK since I already got my new primary phone. No to Samsung this time. Haha I suspect that the phone is literally good for only two years, maybe that's part of the manufacturer’s plan so that we will upgrade after two years or so. Haha

I didn't bring my phone to the SC. I expect the same that they will say motherboard issue then battery. Haha

I got my S7E for 40k during the launching week and due to what I experienced with it, I lost my faith in Samsung. Haha A flagship phone that's very expensive but will only last for a couple of years even if I am too careful with it.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this. Maybe we have the same problem. By the way, I keep on pressing power button + volume down whenever problem occurs.

So is the case with me as explained by Ronnel. My Samsung galaxy s7 edge will suddenly go black.nothing works.after a day when I plug in charger it starts charging n boots as well.but it behaves differently. Sometimes sound of spark or audio or fragmented colors and after a while start rebooting in a loop.At times it does well for about an hour if not used but only when charging cable is plugged in.out the cable it again goes black dead.my tech says not to waist money on it.following his advice m happy to save money.

Exactly same thing happend to me as well. My S7 was going good for 2.4 years, then suddenly it just started randomly freezing & rebooting. It would get stuck in black screen of death and no key combination will work. I flashed the phone two times with latest stock firmware but the problem kept on happening. Then suddenly one day it just got stuck in reboot and switched off after battery went 0%. Never booted up again, nor did it charged when plugged in.

Experiencing the same issue with my S7, I replaced the battery via a kit online, everything seemed to be working correctly, charged it to 100% then left it on overnight (my husband said he was going to treat it with his heat gun and he forgot and fell asleep). Woke up this morning to an unresponsive phone with a black screen AGAIN. Looks like I'm getting a new phone…

Same issue with my Samsung S7 as well. I did expect an expensive flagship phone to last atleast for 5 years. I am getting skeptical of Samsung now. If this is the way flagship phones behave , then we do not want to be part of it.

Bought my S7edge duos exynos 6 months after launch. It worked beautifully for almost 4 to 5 years. I even rooted it multiple times and installed custom roms etc.

Well it suddenly died on me a few months back; completely unresponsive. Showed it to a tech today and 1st he said that processor failure is common in these phones but he'd check whether the battery maybe at fault. Turned out to be the processor; ended up getting a snapdragon replacement and its up and running now.
