If your motor runs for a moment before stopping, you might have some gunk in your fuel system - maybe the carburetor. I suggest draining the gas out of the tank, buying some fresh gas, and adding some Seafoam gas treatment to the new gas. Fill the tank with the new gas / Seafoam, and crank it up. If you had gunk in the fuel system, the Seafoam will clean it all out, and your mower will run like new.

Before doing this, make sure that your air filter and fuel filter are clean and in good condition. If you have any doubts about either of them, replace them. Then crank your mower, to see how well it runs.

You can get Seafoam at many auto parts stores -- https://seafoamsales.com/small-engines/
