LCD Inverter, Cable, or Screen?

Hi,

Initially, I thought I had a bad logic board until I reset PMU & PRAM, formatted hard drive, and then reinstalled OS 10.5. Boots fine now with no boot/startup issues.

So, my current issue is that I have an screen that has colored vertical lines, a dual image, and a significant black area. Video works flawlessly when connected to an external monitor. Thoughts on whether this could be just an inverter/cable ? Or is it likely the entire lcd ?

See attached pics to see what I'm getting.

It is not the inverter that only affects the backlight. It could be the LVDS cable or it is not seated properly in the sockets. If the problem gets better or worse by you moving the upper part of the laptop at the hinge it is the LVDS cable, unless you find a bad connection at either end of it. If you haven't found your problem yet then the LCD will need replaced. This guide covers the procedure for LCD replacement. You would use the same guide to replace the LVDS cable. There are several models of your laptop. Please give us the last 3 digits/letters of your serial number and we will locate the correct parts for you.
