A problem with update to high sierra

I have a mackbook pro 13 inch made in 2011 late. I replace the hard drive with samsung SSD EVO 860 1TB recently.

the laptop still running on mac os EI Captain, so I‘m wondering that it possible to update system from EI Captain to High sierra, because I found someone said Apple has some issues still with the new APFS file system running on SATA based SSD systems

I would suggest backing up your files and performing a manual clean install.

You can use disk utility to partition the new Samsung to journaled instead of APFS and then installing high sierra.

If you upgrade, stubbornly OS X will be converted to APFS, but on a manual clean install the conversion does not occur.

is there any solution that can just upgrade to high sierra directly, because I have lots of software on EI captain right now, I don't want to install all the softwares again.

Actually, try this terminal command. It assumes you have downloaded High Sierra Installer already. If the download runs the installer, simply CMD+Q to quit the installer. Then open a Terminal and type the following:

[code]/Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/startosinstall --converttoapfs NO[code]
