My Xbox Gives me Error Code 17

Hey there!

I got an Original Xbox from a friend of mine because he couldn't open the tray since the rubber band was old in it. I wanted to mod it and put a bigger HDD in it so I took it apart to se if everything was fine with the machine. but to my surprise when I put everything back together the console gives me an Error Code -17 .

I tried replacing the IDE cable it didn't work.

I am pretty sure I didn't creak anything.

If anyone has this problem please help me, you are my only hope.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Error E17 is simply a general hardware failure and needs to be diagnosed. It pretty much means "something went wrong"

It could be anything from a loose connection, to a broken board component. unfortunately, you will likely have to fully disassembly the device, and scan it for kinks in flex ribbons/cables as well as chips in board components.

If you changed out the disc drive to get the drive to open properly, you will need to transfer over the original PCB to the new drive, in order to maintain serial pairing.

Try putting the old drive back into the device, as your drive may also be incompatible.

Hi I didn't swap any of the drives. I just opened it to see why it wasn't opening the disk tray. Everything in the console is original.

did you turn the device on to test it before opening it up?

Yup I tested it and it worked just fine. Except the disk tray was stuck due to the rubber band being old.
